General

Anew Hotel Hluhluwe & Safaris is the best example of South African hospitality and accommodation that the African continent has to offer. The hotel’s bedrooms are air conditioned, with walk-in closets with en-suite bathrooms. The hotel is fully air-conditioned, has a full DStv bouquet and a big screen LCD TV. Alternatively meals can be taken at the hotel. The village of Hluhluwe is in the heart of Zululand on South Africa’s east coast, home to the Zulu kings Dingiswayo and Shaka. Only a two hour drive from Durban and four hours from Johannesburg the entire area around the Hluhluwe Reserve, right down to the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park, now a World Heritage Site, has been given over to animal conservation and game farms and visiting the region provides one with an abundance of Big Five viewing, over 350 species of bird and a variety of other wildlife including rhino, giraffe, wildebeest and many antelope species.

The main attraction of the area is without doubt the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve. The park covers about 96 000 ha and game aside, contains an incredible diversity of fauna and flora. Guests have an abundance of beaches, Battle sites, game reserves, including Hluluwe/Umfolozi Park, nature reserves, the Shakaland Zulu cultural centre including a wonderful display of Zulu dancing are all available at a moments notice. Guests can also take a cruise down the Umlalazi River, a 125m Aerial boardwalk through the Dlinza forest, enjoy a delicious lunch at the Amatikulu prawn shack, nature trails and hikes through the Umlalazi and Amatikulu Nature Reserves down to the unspoilt beaches, quad bike trails and horse riding excursions.
