General
Middelburg is a large farming and industrial town in the South African province of Mpumalanga. It is known as the “Stainless Steel Capital of Africa”. Middelburg was established as Nasareth, in 1864 by the Voortrekkers on the banks of the Klein Olifants River. The name was changed in 1872 to Middelburg to mark its situation midway between Pretoria and Lydenburg. Middelburg is centrally situated in Mpumalanga within easy reach of Gauteng, the Lowveld and North Eastern Mpumalanga.
The world-famous Kruger National Park, Blyde River Canyon and Pilgrim’s Rest are all within a 150 – 250km radius. In the locallity, Loskop Dam, Middelburg Dam and the Botshabelo Cultural Museum are a short distance away and worth a visit. There are a lot of great activities to do in and around town. Young or old, Middelburg has got something just for you.
